Because of the sacrifices of so many, BRCC continues to impact lives today. Marriage have been restored; Lives have been saved; and the addicted set free. Here are a few stories of what God has done.
A BRCC Story: Stacy and Ryan’s Journey
New Starts” was the theme of my high school years. During my freshman year, I went to drug rehab. After the disappointment of relapse, I found a new start with a boyfriend that would end up being the most destructive relationship of my life.
In my junior year, my childhood best friend died suddenly. She was the “good one” of the two of us. I became deeply ashamed about the way I was living and decided to finish my senior year as she would have. I went from druggie to Homecoming Queen. However, all my efforts to be good never lasted -- shame always lurked and always ended up winning. Finally, desperate for a permanent “do over”, I found the only Christian at my school that I knew. She invited me to BRCC. After many weeks of putting on a pretty face, covering the smell of cigarettes, and waiting to be found out, I was asked about my salvation. When it was clear none of my answers were THE answer, my youth pastor told me about being a NEW creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). How wonderfully surprising that God used the romance of a “do over” to purchase my soul. One other miracle of my salvation is that my future husband was part of it. God strategically had placed Ryan in that room on the couch next to me as I began this new journey. God has used this man to reinforce the new life. Ryan believes that the old Stacy is gone. Not once has he asked about my past. That spring night, the Lord stepped into the life of a broken, hopeless and scared young girl and called me the most endearing name my heart has ever heard -- “His.”
A BRCC Story: Sue’s Journey
After my husband Dan's death, God began impressing me about tithing (giving 10%) on the $30,000 I got from his life insurance. I debated the issue with Him. I reminded Him that i had not worked for the money and I didn't think He expected me to tithe on it. Besides, it was all i had to live on.
Shortly after Dan's death, I reconnected with a friend on Facebook whose husband had died four years previously. During our conversations, she shared with me how God had blessed and sustained her especially after she tithed the little life insurance money that she had received.
On Sunday, February 21st, I woke up with my friend's words on my mind. I tried to rationalize that God really wouldn't want me to give $3,000. I'd been existing on the life insurance money and was almost out. Besides, I still had no job after months of searching!
I opened my Bible to the book of Malachi and read, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty. "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
I argued with God for over an hour, expressing my fear to Him. I finally concluded that He was the God who gives and takes away (thinking of Dan) and I was willing to do what He wanted. So I wrapped up the $3000 in chase, drove to the church just in time for the last service and offered it as a tithe.
That very week, I got a phone call offering me a full time job with benefits, a phone and a laptop. Now I not only have a job but a new mission field-San's Club! How do you like that?
Thank you for all your support, prayers, and tears on my behalf.
A BRCC Story: Michael and Jodie’s JourneyMichael never thought he could feel so alone. Somewhere along the way, he and his wife Jodie had stopped talking. The laughter and love they had once experienced had faded into loneliness.
So Michael moved to San Antonio. It was during this time that God began speaking to him. He began seeking God and one day got on his knees and poured out his heart to God. He realized that the only thing that mattered was that he focus on his relationship with God. He stopped concentrating on their problems and began concentrating on how he could be right and acceptable in God’s sight.
Then something began to happen. Michael gradually became a new man. His whole demeanor changed. Within a couple of months, his wife began to notice that he was changing. Eventually, Jodie began H2O Recovery Ministry where she began her own process of healing. Now their marriage has been restored and their lives are being made whole. Today, they are investing their lives by using their time and talents to serve in the H2O Recovery Ministry.
